"While I was Nurse Manager in the Emergency Department, the executive director told me administration has its eye on me and I should start preparing myself to move up. I enrolled in core management training at our Center for Learning & Innovation (CLI) and the rest is history. Today, as an Associate Executive Director, I oversee more than 500 staff members — and a huge patient population. I continue to take classes offered at CLI and with every class I take, I get so many more great ideas I can immediately put into action."

"I have always believed that learning is an ongoing process where a person can discover something new and grow every day. In my 18 years at LIJ, I have been encourages and enabled to do that. In fact, I'm the first nurse in the system to attain PCCN certification and this year I'll complete my MBA/MSN/HC, supported by the system's tuition reimbursement program. The system and I share a strong vision to be on the leading edge of healthcare where the learning opportunities never cease. Whether it's formal education opportunities offered by the system or informal collaborative discovery with staff, I am expected and encouraged to make a difference in the advancement of delivery of care. These foundations have resulted in improvements in areas ranging from pressure ulcer wound care, to cost awareness among staff. It's a rewarding feeling to see tangible improvements resulting from motivation, inspiration, and your own hard work."
