At the North Shore-LIJ Health System we view our employees as our greatest asset and that is why helping you achieve a healthy work/life balance is a priority. Below are just some of the programs we offer.

Time-Off and Holidays

We provide a generous Paid Time-Off (PTO) program that gives you the flexibility to use your accrued hours for any purpose, including vacation, holidays, illness, emergency or personal business. The amount of PTO you receive is based upon hours worked and increases with length of service. In addition to PTO, employees are entitled to eight legal holidays, and may take up to three days off to grieve the loss of an immediate family member or to celebrate one's own marriage.

Credit Unions

All employees are eligible for membership in a health system Federal Credit Union starting on the first day of employment. Immediate family members may also join the credit union and use its services.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

EAP offers professional counseling services to all employees and their immediate family members. EAP is provided by licensed healthcare professionals who offer confidential counseling, crisis intervention, and a variety of training and education to address both personal and professional challenges at no cost to the employee.

Healthy Lifestyles Program

Healthy Lifestyles is a system-wide wellness program designed to promote and encourage health and wellness for every employee. Healthy Lifestyles promotes health through its smoking cessation programs, including free counseling and medications to help employees quit smoking, discounted fitness programs, Weight Watchers At Work®, educational seminars on nutrition and discounted rates at on-site nutrition and weight management centers.

Tuition Reimbursement/Educational Development

Eligible employees may receive up to $5,000 per calendar year in reimbursement towards tuition expenses for an associate, undergraduate or graduate degree. In addition, the health system supports many other educational programs and offers free courses through its Center for Learning and Innovation, a one-of-a-kind learning facility for employees.
