We offer an extraordinary Health and Welfare Benefits package to make sure your health, and the health of your dependents, is covered. These benefits are provided through several carriers, so you can decide which benefits are right for you and your family. We offer the following to eligible employees:

Retirement Benefits  

North Shore-LIJ offers a two-part Retirement Program to help you save for retirement:

Cash Balance Plan

Our Cash Balance Plan is similar to a pension and is entirely funded by the health system. After completing one year of service, eligible employees automatically receive 3 percent of their salary in the plan. The plan provides a monthly or lump sum benefit at termination or retirement based on earnings and years of service with the health system. Employees are vested in the plan after completing three years of service.

403(b) Retirement Savings Plan

Our 403(b) savings plan lets employees save pre-tax, and provides generous contributions from the health system. All employees can save a percentage of their earnings before taxes are taken out, beginning on their first day of employment. After completing one year of service, eligible employees will receive 3 percent of their salary in the plan, from the health system. An additional 2 percent will be given to those who contribute 6 percent or more of their salary to their account. Our 403(b) plan features a variety of investment options, including a full range of mutual funds and targeted retirement funds. Work / Life Balance  

North Shore-LIJ recognizes the importance of ensuring that you can successfully manage and balance your personal and professional lives. As a team member, you can take advantage of our Work/Life Benefits, including several programs designed to add value to the lives of our employees and their families. In many cases, employees' dependents may take advantage of these benefits and services as well.

Generous Time-Off and Holidays

We provide a generous Paid Time-Off (PTO) program that gives you the flexibility to use your time off for any purpose, including vacation, holidays, illness, emergency or personal business. In addition to PTO, you are entitled to eight legal holidays and may take up to three days off to grieve the loss of an immediate family member or to celebrate your marriage.

Federal Credit Union

All team members are eligible for membership in the health system Federal Credit Union starting on the first day of employment. Immediate family members may also join the credit union.

Nutrition through WeightWatchers®

Team members who achieve their weight loss goals receive 100 percent reimbursement for completing the WeightWatchers At Work® program, and receive special discount pricing on other services. The program offers motivation, group support and invaluable information about nutrition and fitness on-site throughout the organization's facilities.

Physical Activity/Discounted Gym Memberships

North Shore-LIJ recently introduced its new fitness facility: Vivo Health Fitness at ProHEALTH. The facility offers wellness resources and programs that team members and their families may take advantage of at a deeply discounted employee rate. Additionally, to support physical fitness, special discounts on gym memberships are available to North Shore-LIJ employees.

Personal Health Record and Health Risk Assessment

Team members can keep track of their healthcare information in an easy-to-use online format, with tools for prescriptions, claims and medical conditions. This tool is provided by an independent third-party wellness organization, ensuring that personal information is kept strictly confidential.

Smoking Cessation/Center for Tobacco Control

The health system's renowned Center for Tobacco Control (CTC) provides state-of-the-art tobacco prevention education, cessation services and clinical research. Team members are eligible for free, customized programs to help them quit smoking, as well as free over-the-counter and prescription quit medications.

On-site Employee Health and Wellness Center

North Shore-LIJ manages the occupational healthcare needs of all team members, promoting and protecting your health. Many services are offered to help employees get what they need on-site, eliminating the need to go to a doctor's office, thus promoting a better work/life balance. Services include:

  • Annual health assessments
  • Evaluations and management of on-the-job injuries and illnesses
  • "Fitness for Duty" evaluations
  • Free immunizations for flu, measles, mumps, and other illnesses

Employee Assistance Program

Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a free resource to help team members and their families maintain a healthy lifestyle both at work and at home. The EAP helps with a wide-range of concerns – from emotional and behavioral issues, to health problems, family conflicts and job concerns. The EAP responds 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to team members both virtually and on-site/in-person, which is what makes the EAP so unique.
