North Shore-LIJ provides exceptional opportunities for those interested in a fulfilling EMS career. Through our Center for Emergency Medical Services (CEMS), more than 300 EMTs and Paramedics provide vital pre-hospital emergency care in New York City’s five boroughs and on Long Island – an area of over 2,200 square miles.

Our CEMS is comprised of 3 clinical divisions: Inter-facility; NYC-911; and Paramedic First Responders. Our NYC-911 division alone features 9 Basic and Advanced Life Support units that complement the FDNY-EMS fleet, and it responds to more than 1,500 transport requests every month.

We follow a high-performance EMS model featuring a state-of-the-art communications center, including a TriTech Computer Aided Dispatch System, Certified Emergency Medical Dispatchers, and GPS tracking of all emergency service vehicles. We also act as the Health System Emergency Management Command Center.

With us, you will have every opportunity to grow personally and professionally. We provide excellent education opportunities for both EMTs and Paramedics, with available clinical training including ACLS, PALS, BCLS, NRP, AMLS, CCEMTP, PEPP, PNCCT, and PHTLS. You’ll also be part of a community-oriented team that assists with special events including health fairs, the US Open, school and community visits, and special events such as the Teddy Bear Clinic.
