Treating and stabilizing patients in crisis is essential to the high quality care we deliver throughout North Shore-LIJ. With more than 300,000 patients each year, our Emergency Department nurses are at the very heart of that care.

We offer 15 state-of-the-art facilities comprised of Level I adult and pediatric trauma centers, and several Level II community hospitals including 911 receiving centers and heart care stations. As an Emergency Department Nurse with us, you will gain experience working with multiple disciplines and departments in a shared effort to move patients through the emergency care process quickly and precisely. At our Level 1 tertiary facilities, our team approach includes RNs, NPs and Case Managers working together to coordinate care throughout our Fast Track, Short Stay and Clinical Decision Units.

In addition to diverse experiences and opportunities that enhance your professional expertise, critical thinking and clinical skills, we offer formal learning opportunities including:

  • Educational programs and resources including our Center for Learning & Innovation and the Patient Safety Institute, which offer complete orientation and training scenarios in our patient simulation lab, and support culture of lifelong learning
  • Our Emergency Department Registered Nurse Fellowship Program, which assists nurses in achieving progressive independence in emergency department clinical practice

Whether you are a recent graduate, a nurse with emergency department experience, or someone looking to transition into emergency department nursing, we invite you to join our close-knit, collaborative team.
