Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine
These are exciting times in medicine for physicians. North Shore-LIJ has partnered with Long Island-based Hofstra University to open the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine--the first new allopathic medical school established in New York since 1963. Hofstra and North Shore-LIJ have combined their respective strengths and expertise, each sharing responsibility for the medical school's mission and success.
The new medical school combines Hofstra's academic infrastructure and expertise with North Shore-LIJ's clinical and graduate medical education programs. It also incorporates research conducted at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, the research arm of the health system, providing the strong foundation for an excellent medical education experience and to pave the way for the future of medical experts in the region.
In our partnership on a medical school with Hofstra University, North Shore-LIJ hopes to further enhance the health system's ability to recruit nationally renowned physicians and researchers, which will help bolster the quality of healthcare in the region. As one of the nation's 20 largest health systems, North Shore-LIJ offers a vast array of clinical programs and services that already provide about 1,100 medical residents and fellows with extraordinary learning experiences at our teaching hospitals.
