Description:

The Assistant Director of Pharmacy assumes responsibility for department's activities in the absence of the Associate Director, supervises the activities of the Pharmacy, establishes work assignments, recommends and evaluates policies and procedures, is responsible for scheduling staff, coordinates interdepartmental and intra-departmental activities, coordinates inventory management activities, coordinates investigational drug activities, acts as a preceptor for Pharmacy students and performs related activities as assigned.


Responsibilities include:

  • Evaluates, recommends and implements approved policies and procedures using knowledge of related laws governing the profession and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Supervises, hires, trains, disciplines and evaluates the performance of staff. Ensures performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner.
  • Participates in hospital committees established to identify the needs of patients and the scope of pharmaceutical services required to meet those needs.
  • Participates in department's Quality Assurance Coordinating Group and its initiatives.
  • Coordinates pharmacy operations commensurate with the scope of services provided and the identified needs of patients.
    • Recommends necessary space, equipment and supplies in order for the department to provide quality and comprehensive services.
    • Evaluates the scope of services provided and adequately schedules the pharmacy staff to provide those services effectively and in a timely manner.

    • Analyzes, recommends, implements and monitors approved work-flow changes.
      Participates in determining adequate staffing levels


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college or university including a pharmacy residency/internship program. Advanced degree in Pharmacy, preferred.
  • Currently licensed as a Pharmacist in the State of New York.
  • Minimum of three (3) years progressively supervisory experience in a hospital setting or equivalent education and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the specialized function of hospital Pharmacy
