Ensures quality and production standards are met. Prepares agency reports and assists in the resolution of agency denials.Supervises, hires, trains, disciplines and evaluates the performance of staff. Ensures performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner. Supervises Quality Control of the Coding unit functions to ensure the smooth operation of the department. Monitors staff performance for accuracy, detail and quality. Ensures coding meets ICD-9-CM and/or CPT nomenclature based on Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS), AMA and CPT coding guidelines.Reviews discharge information, diagnoses and procedures for each discharge to ensure accuracy and correct reimbursement.Reviews DNFB (discharged not final billed) and OPD Exception report daily to ensure that aged cases are coded and dropped.Reviews daily operations of the Coding Unit functions for backlogs and computer problems; makes recommendations for and implements corrective action.Performs and assists in correcting hospital data returned from external agencies (Statewide Planning and Research Cooperative System, DOH, etc.). Assists in the review and rebuttal of regulatory agency denials.Ensures all regulatory reporting requirements are reported in a timely fashion. (SPARCS, NYSDOH, NYC DOH) including NYS DOH Congenital Malformations Registry, Pacemaker Data collection form, stillborn, Sterilization, Alzheimer's occurrences.Clarifies coding and reimbursement issues for the staff and Patient Financial Services by using the correct nomenclature and regulatory guidelines.Participates in developing and implementing in-servicing and training of coding staff in new coding changes that relate to compliance, reimbursement and regulatory standards.Performs related duties, as required. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Health Information or related field, required. Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), CCS or CCSP certification, required. Minimum of three (3) years ICD/CPT coding and DRG experience in an acute care facility including leadership role, required. Demonstrated organizational and communication skills, required.
