Description:

As an Assistant Director - Cytogeneticist you will participate at a high level in the scientific and technical operation of the system Cytogenetics service unit, including development and evaluation of test procedures, result reporting and adherence to system quality control standards


Responsibilities include:

    • Participating in reviewing, interpreting and reporting of patient results, with proficiency in Prenatal, Constitutional and Oncology cases.
    • Consulting with clinical staff regarding test results.
    • Conferring with staff regarding appropriate test utilization and testing methodology for the test requested, and ensuring the quality of results required for patient care.
    • Resolving technical problems and taking remedial actions when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance standards.
    • Ensuring the ongoing Quality Assurance programs are maintained for testing.
    • Maintaining the Quality Control program appropriate for the testing performed, and ensuring the parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained throughout the entire testing process - from the initial receipt of the specimen to reporting of test results.
    • Maintaining a safe working environment by strict adherence to company safety policies and procedures, remaining alert to the existence of safety hazards, and reporting unsafe conditions.
    • Providing expert oversight of ongoing technical operations, including problem-solving and client service response.
    • Complying with federal, state and local regulations and tax laws, and JCAHO standards.
    • Maintaining enrollment and participation in PT programs commensurate with the services offered.
    • Preparing information, data and reports for integration into management decisions.
    • Contributing to the evaluation, recommendation and implementation of new technologies, and the establishment of quality, safety and performance characteristics of diagnostic tests.
    • Supervising technical or non-technical personnel in the laboratory; and evaluating competency and proficiency of the technical staff to perform test procedures and report test results, and providing in-service education.
    • Teaching GME, UME, clinical staff, and allied health programs including laboratory technology training programs.
    • Supporting scholarly and research activities of division, including providing opportunity for trainees to participate in scholarly work.


Qualifications:

  • PhD, required.
  • New York State Certificate of Qualification eligibility, required.
  • American Board of Medical Genetics certification in Clinical Cytogenetics, required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of Clinical Cytogenetics and Molecular Cytogenetics professional experience post-training, required.
  • Microarray analysis experience.
  • Working knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) law and other regulatory guidelines required.
