Description:
Develops, implements and monitors Safety programs
1. Monitors and review all areas of safety and Environment of Care including: Fire/Life Safety, Hazardous Materials and Waste Management, Emergency Management (Disaster Preparedness), Safety Management, Medical Equipment Management, Utility Systems Management, and Infection Control.
2. Coordinates and/or participates in the development of departmental and facility wide safety policies, procedures and programs.
3. Reviews and updates the hospital's Environment of Care plans, policies and procedures.
4. Prepares and monitors annual budget projections for capital and operating expenses.
5. Compiles, analyzes, and formulates Health System reports. Presents findings to Performance Improvement Coordinating Group (PICG) Committees.
6. Selects, develops, manages and evaluates direct reports; and oversees the development and management of indirect reports.
7. Intervenes when conditions pose an immediate threat to life, health and/or damage to equipment or property.
8. Participates as a member of safety related ad hoc committees including, the PICG, Radiation Safety, Standards and Infection Control Committees.
9. Ensures that emergency disaster drills and fire drills are effective and makes corrections as needed.
10. Coordinates and/or participates in the hazard surveillance, vulnerability analysis and risk assessment processes.
11. Coordinates and conducts the hospital-wide safety education orientation and continuing education programs.
12. Coordinates an ongoing organization-wide process to continuously collect information about deficiencies and opportunities for improvement in environment of care programs.
13. Initiates action based on the analysis of data provided by the Environment of Care Information Collection and Evaluation System.
14. Assists in defining performance indicators for the evaluation of the Safety Management Program.
15. Participates in pre-construction risk assessment process to determine need to implement interim life safety measures and other risk reduction strategies.
16. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies to include, OSHA, EPA, DEC, DEP, NYCDOH MH, NYSDOH, NFPA, FDNY and JCAHO, and act as a safety liaison with the agencies and the hospital. Manages the hazardous waste program, which includes annual
Tier II (Community Right to Know) and NYS DEC Waste reporting.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's Degree in a related field, required. Master's Degree, preferred.
· Certified Safety Professional, required.
· Minimum of seven (7) years progressively responsible experience, including safety experience in a hospital setting.
· Thorough knowledge of applicable governmental regulations (i.e., OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, AAMI, etc.), required.
· Valid unrestricted New York State Drivers License (w/o violations), required.
· Ability to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action with firmness and tact.
