Description:

As a Quality and Medication Safety Specialist you will partner with the Chief Pharmacy & Medication Safety Officer to ensure responsibilities associated with Smart Pump medication safety standards are met. You will also participate in all aspects of medication safety, smart pump utilization and quality data reporting and analyses, and serve as System clinical expert in appropriate use of pumps and related software as well as contact for educational needs.


Responsibilities include:

  • Generates reports and analyzes data from Alaris CQI Reporter software.
  • Creates, implements and monitors action plans to address system wide issues indicated in the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) data as well as concerns of clinical staff and management.
  • Identifies quality gaps in practices related to smart pumps compared to industry benchmarks, and published best practices and Performance Improvement (PI) plans and ensures optimal utilization of smart pump technology throughout the Health System.
  • Presents data reports to various hospital and Health System committees comparing data between facilities, facility to System, and System to industry comparators to ensure optimal use of data sets, clinical safety practices and positive outcomes.
  • Participates in system wide committees, task forces, and organizational performance teams.
  • Utilizes evidence based best clinical practices to extract maximum clinical utility from Alaris Smart Pump Data.
  • Educates users on the functionality of the Alaris Smart Pump hardware and Alaris CQI Reporter software.
  • Participates in the development of facility specific and system wide policies and procedures related to smart pump technology.
  • Communicates and works with clinical staff and executive leadership on intravenous infusion safety initiatives, related practice improvements and medication safety efforts for patients and clinicians.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy and current New York State licensure as a Pharmacist required OR High School diploma or equivalent AND graduate from an accredited School of Nursing or Physician Assistant Program and current New York State licensure as a Registered Physician Assistant OR Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience in an acute care setting, required.
  • Experience in quality improvement and/or clinical informatics, required
