As the surrounding communities have become more diverse, North Shore-LIJ has identified Diversity, Inclusion and Health Literacy as core characteristics of our organization, and key components to North Shore-LIJ’s mission to provide quality care. This means advancing cultural and linguistic competence and promoting effective communication to eliminate health disparities and enhance patient outcomes.
The Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Health Literacy provides strategic vision and leadership on diversity, inclusion and health literacy activities for the Health System’s 16 hospitals and other facilities, as well as the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. The office also serves as North Shore-LIJ’s liaison to membership organizations, government entities and other healthcare organizations.
Our ultimate goal is to deliver the highest quality of care to all, regardless of race, ethnicity or cultural background, as well as language proficiency, literacy, age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or socioeconomic status.
